How do I get to the Language and Development Center?

The University of Raparin is located on Main St., in Ranya. It is across the street from Ranya’s garage, and it is impossible to miss. On campus, the Language and Development Center is located in the Faculty of Basic Education building (3rd building on left). Our office is located in the Presidency building (1st building on the left) and classrooms are situated on the 2nd floor (3rd floor by American standards).

Where and how do I register for classes?

There are two ways to register for a class. You may visit us at the Presidency and register in person, or you can register online. Please click here to register online.

How do I know which course to take?

We offer basic English and IELTS English. If you are scheduled to take the IELTS exam, or you plan on taking it in the future, we suggest you register for our IELTS course. For other students, we suggest basic English. During the first week of classes, the Language and Development Center will conduct a speaking test in order to divide students based on speaking proficiency.

Is the LC Placement test required and why is it important?

Yes, the placement test is required. The test will allow us to group students, based on ability. By grouping students, classes will be more beneficial.

How much time will a course take each week?

English classes will run for 12 hours each week. Classes will be held from 3pm-6pm on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. In addition, the LC Clubhouse will be open on these days.

What is the LC Clubhouse?

The Language Center Clubhouse is a space for students and members of the university community. It is used for English speaking practice, activities, and games. In addition, the LC Clubhouse serves coffee and tea.

How long does a course last?

The English courses will last for 8 weeks.

What is the attendance policy for class?

If a student misses 10% of classes, he/she will be dismissed.

What is the cost of a course?

Each course has a different price. For the summer English courses, the tuition fee will be 250,000 IQD.

What is the IELTS exam and why is it important?

IELTS is an English proficiency exam, available at more than 1,100 locations worldwide. Here in the Kurdistan Region, the IELTS exam is vital for students who wish to pursue continuing education. For all Master’s and PhD candidates, the IELTS exam is a requirement. It is also great for those who wish to work or study abroad.

In addition, students will learn the techniques for taking this exam. Our teaching staff includes an instructor who previously worked as an official IELTS examiner.
